The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was established under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and rules, 2011. The Central Government shall, by notification, establish a body to be known as the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to exercise the powers conferred on, and to perform the functions assigned to, it under this Act. The head office of the Food Authority shall be in Delhi. The Food Authority may establish its offices at any other place in India.

Objective of FSSAI Act

This Act has been created for laying down science-based standards for food articles and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale, and import to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption.
